Canadian Politics

Well it has to be said that Canadian politics have finally got the attention of Canadians. We are now in a time where politics are changing by the minute and it is hard to keep up. Just last week we were thinking that a coalition government was going to be in control of our country. Now, at this point it is not as one of the main parties involved in the coalition has no official leader. So what are we as Canadians left with then? Well, we have the minority conservatives in power and they have prorogued parliament until January 26, 2009. They do not have to officially hold a day in parliament though until December 4 of 2009, as parliament only needs to sit once a year. We will see what happens in the next month and a half.

Amidst all the conflict and exciting times we are now in with Canadian politics, we at CAMP are finding that support for our party is slowly growing daily. We are on our way to becoming a registered party. People are realizing in politics that right now they really have no option except for CAMP that truely will work for them and listen to them. Soon our website will be live online and it will be easier for people to see what we are all about and join us as we bring Canada back to the true state of democracy that it is supposed to be. We are looking for people like you who would be willing to join us in our journey. If you are interested in joining us, we would be happy to have you as a member our our party. All you have to do at this point to join is send an email to camp_308_2008@hotmail.com with your name, address, and phone number to join. Your information will be kept confidential.
We look forward to building a better Canada with you!!!

Obama and Canada

Well now that the U.S. election is over it will be interesting to see what sort of issues will develop between the U.S. and Canada in every aspect of the free trade agreement, soft wood lumber agreements along with oil coming out of the west heading south.
I really don't feel comfortable as a Canadian with the economy the way it is now and what might transpire between our minority government and Obama's group.
Time will tell as to how the democrats will treat Canada.
Hopefully the CAMP party can perform the similar rise as Obama did in the U.S.
We continue to grow slowly with out a website. The website will be up and running soon so that we can actually have a solid web presence for people to visit and read our information and actually join us in this exciting undertaking.
We need all the help we can get in growing our membership, and finally giving hope to all Canadians with a our fair and honest approach to politics.
Let's hope we don't slide into a recession like the U.S. is now treading water in.
Analyzing the past 8 years of Bush politics, it isn't hard to see why a recession is happening.
Poor management of their country from their armed forces heavy handedness and the spending that requires, along with lack of financial controls on the mortgage sector and banking industry has surely helped to fuel this recession.
Canada will fair slightly better but when your swimming in the same pond with a floundering whale your bound to have a tough time of it.
Let's not let Canada fall into the same state by holding onto the old style politics and old boys club that has been in Ottawa under the two party banners of Conservative or Liberal. We are the party of real change, with a dynamic platform that will always address the current issues at hand. We are the party that will bring the young people back to the voting table by modernizing the way people vote. Online voting is the absolute logical and modern way to vote for the future, and this alone is the only pre-election platform item we will strive to obtain first. Once in power we would poll Canadians as to what they want their government to address and solve.
Notice I said their government! No more 4 year dictatorship even when we win by a landslide!

Online Voting - the way of the future

Online voting is a subject that up until now has not been instituted into the Canadian Electoral system. That is going to change. In today's fast paced world with a younger generation that rely on computers so heavily in everyday life, we need to have online voting available. After questioning some young people about the recent election we just had in October 2008, I was not surprised to find that many of them did not vote. The reason they didn't vote is because it would have taken too much time to figure out where there polling station was. They just couldn't be bothered. In generations past, the polling station was the best and only option available for voting and it has served it's purpose, but in today's fast paced world, we are seeing that they are not very effective at all for getting people to vote. That is why it is the number 1 priority for the Canadian Alternative Members Party (CAMP) to have this instituted into Canadian Politics as one of the ways that people will be able to vote in future elections. With voter turnout being at an all time low of 58% in the last election, we have nothing to lose by instituting online voting.

Introduction to Camp

A Word from the Founders:
Welcome to CAMP group information files. We are the founders of the soon to be registered party that we hope will change the way Canadian Politics works. We would like to bring Canada back to a true democracy.
If you’re like us, a regular every day Canadian who works for a living and wants an alternative to the political scene in Ottawa, then we believe you will get excited about CAMP and what we offer.
We call ourselves founders and not leaders because of how CAMP is set up to function. According to Elections Canada, we need a party leader to become a registered political party. As founders we are filling that roll until CAMP members elect one of our own to assume the roll. Once we are a registered party we will be able to participate in our first Canadian federal election.
At the present time we as Canadians have just elected our second Conservative minority government. This is what prompted us to finally do something in a positive manner, to see if everyday Canadians can help us to change the political landscape of Canada for the better. We are just two Canadians, and you are also one. Together we make 3 and then 4 and 5 and so on. We get excited thinking of what could be if we can get the ball rolling! You help me and I’ll help you. It’s as simple as that. So please if you haven’t already joined our cause, feel free to do so.
At this point in time we have a number of items to address in becoming a registered party. We promise, if you become a member, and stick with us, we should be able to participate in the next election. We truly look forward to meeting everyone who becomes a member, if it is possible through rallies, meetings and campaigns in the future. We have a lot of work to do. The more minds and hands the better and the easier the task will become.
We know there is a place for you in CAMP, where you can help change your Canada, and help make Canadian History as our CAMP becomes a reality.
The most important thing we need right now is people like you. And we need a lot of people. If you are on board with us then please talk to all your friends and acquaintances, business, social, church, neighbourhood, anywhere a kind ear will listen.
Direct them to this blog so they can learn. Print them off a hard copy if you can so they can read. If they don’t have a computer we have an address that they can send regular mail to for joining.

Definiton of Democracy

Definition of democracy:
De-moc-ra-cy (di-mok-ruh-see)
government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
a state having such a form of government: The United States and Canada are democracies
a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges
political or social equality; democratic spirit
the common people of a community as distinguished from any privileged class; the common people with respect to their political power.

History of Democracy:
The form of democracy that we are familiar with today was taken from a form of democracy that originated in Athens Greece in 7th century BC. It was here that the people gathered as a large Ecclesia (assembly) when decisions needed to be made. Each citizen had a vote. It was here that all laws were passed, all officials were elected, and where appeals were heard from the most important decisions before the courts. During this time the Boule of 400 was created. The Boule of 400 was open to all members of society except for the lowest income bracket to serve a term of one year. These people would have the responsibilities of listening to what the people had to say and bring them to the Ecclesia. Today we have MP’s that are supposed to do this for us. People in the top two income brackets could become Archons (magistrates). People in this group had specific delegations to oversee. Today this group is known as ministers (finance, health, agricultural, etc.). Since this period in time, democracy has made the changes to become what it is today. A very watered down version of what it was originally intended to be. Today, instead of the people voting on issues it is our MP’s who are supposed to decide things for us, many times not listening to the people who elected them. The main reason for this is because there is a single person in power (Prime Minister), who often times dictates how the elected members of their party are to vote, therefore negating what they are there to do.

Platform:
The focus of this CAMP is to bring democracy back to its true roots. Let the people of Canada make the decisions. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone’s opinion should be heard. CAMP will be using the technology that is before us today to allow everyone to vote at a specified time through different means. These will include but not be limited to: phoning your vote in, voting online through a secure website, and of course standard polling stations.

People will also be able to have their opinions and views expressed on the issues being voted on where people can see and hear them, on parliamentary television. This will be possible through feeds at your local MP’s office. Once a topic is open for debate all you have to do to share your opinion is make an appointment with your local MP.

MP’s will be elected in the same way they are now, through an election against the main parties who are now in power, or trying to be. It is our goal to have a constituent in every riding across Canada to ensure that everyone will be heard. CAMP is here for the people.

Advantages of the system

No more 4 year dictatorships.
More people will become involved with the political process in Canada because they are directly involved in the decision making 100% of the time.
True Democracy will prevail.

Alternate Ways of Voting Needed

Now that we have gone through the latest Canadian election, we have wound up with another Conservative minority government which is back where we were in the first place. With such a low voter turnout there definately needs to be alternate ways of voting to get the newer generation of voters involved, ie. secure online voting, phone in voting, and text message voting.
